Position: Heat Treat Operator

Job Summary - 2nd or 3rd Shift

The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring heat treating equipment to process metal parts and components to desired mechanical properties, such as hardness, strength, and durability. This role requires strict adherence to safety and quality standards while maintaining accurate process documentation and supporting production goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and tend heat treating equipment such as furnaces, ovens, and quench tanks according to work orders and specifications.
  • Load and unload parts, baskets, and fixtures into/from heat treat furnaces safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and control temperature, timing, and process cycles to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
  • Record processing parameters, production data, and inspection results accurately for quality records and compliance.
  • Inspect heat-treated materials for conformance to specifications using measuring tools and visual checks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of heat treating equipment as needed.
  • Follow written procedures, standard operating instructions, and safety protocols at all times.
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding production status, issues, and safety concerns.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; technical training in metallurgy, materials science, or industrial processes preferred.
  • Previous experience in heat treating, furnace operation, or related industrial manufacturing roles is preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, charts, and technical documents.
  • Competency with temperature controls, gauges, and monitoring instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights safely.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
