Head Strength & Conditioning Coach
The University of Missouri-St. Louis Department of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks a qualified Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to plan, coordinate, and administer strength and conditioning programs for UMSL student‑athletes. The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), a proud member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and NCAA Division II, invites applications for a full‑time Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position provides leadership and oversight of all strength, conditioning, and performance programs for UMSL student‑athletes which includes 15 teams.
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach plays a vital role in enhancing athletic performance, reducing injury risk, and supporting the holistic development of student‑athletes across all varsity sports.
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of sport‑specific strength and conditioning programs designed to support athletic performance, injury prevention, and student‑athlete well‑being, in collaboration with sport coaches and sports medicine personnel.
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach reports to the designated athletics administrator and performs duties in accordance with NCAA, GLVC, University, and departmental policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Design, implement, and oversee sport‑specific, periodized strength and conditioning programs appropriate to each varsity sport’s physiological demands and competitive schedule
- Provide direct instruction and supervision of student‑athletes during strength and conditioning activities
- Coordinate scheduling and utilization of strength and conditioning facilities
- Collaborate with sport coaches to align physical preparation with sport‑specific training objectives
- Work in coordination with athletic training and sports medicine staff to support injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play activities
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures related to facility safety, equipment use, and training protocols
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assistant coaches, interns, and/or graduate assistants as assigned
- Maintain accurate records related to workouts, facility usage, and equipment inventory
- Monitor compliance with NCAA, GLVC, University, and departmental rules and regulations
- Promote the academic success, health, and welfare of student‑athletes
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics

Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications- Current nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification (e.g., CSCS, SCCC). CPR, AED, and First Aid certification held or obtained within a designated timeframe. Preferred licensures would include: SCCC, MSCC, or CSCS.
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience leading or coordinating a collegiate strength and conditioning program
- Experience supervising staff, interns, or graduate assistants
- Familiarity with Division II athletics and the GLVC competitive environment
- Experience with athlete monitoring, testing, or performance technology
Salary Range: $53,000 - $60,000 Annually
