Backend Developer Journeyman

Freedom Technology Solutions Group is seeking a Software Engineer (Backend Developer) to support our client’s intelligence analysis products and capabilities. This position involves providing software development capabilities to enhance existing and emerging client capabilities, including design and development, modernization of existing applications and services, and operations and sustainment. The role focuses on driving the client’s adaptation of higher levels of automation and operational efficiency through agile development methodologies, rapid prototyping, and modern technology stacks.

The Journeyman Backend Developer independently applies expertise to multiple, complex backend development assignments. This role requires originality in developing solutions and provides latitude in designing methodologies and approaches.

• Build and maintain secure, automated Dev Sec Ops  pipelines for CI/CD.
• Lead containerized solution deployments across hybrid and cloud (AWS) environments.
• Implement and optimize geospatial data processing and API integrations.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and improve system performance.
• Mentor junior developers and review code contributions.
• Contribute to system architecture discussions and recommend improvements.
• Provide input on deliverables, schedules, and performance metrics.
• Participate in rapid prototyping to quickly iterate and improve solutions.
• Utilize modern technology stacks to meet client needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

• 3–8 years of backend software development experience.
• Experience with Dev Sec Ops  pipelines, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Git Lab, Jenkins).
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, etc.).
• Skilled in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Open Shift).
• Experience with geospatial data frameworks and APIs (e.g., Geo Server, PostGIS, ArcGIS).
• Using Git Lab for code source repository and Git Lab CI/CD.
• Experience working independently with clients or stakeholders to develop user stories for full‑service consumer and business applications.
• Experience with government and/or commercial imagery products, including SAR or related RADAR imaging technologies.
• Developing geospatial information systems (GIS) and working with open‑source and proprietary geospatial formats.
• Using and developing common geospatial tools, data, and operating platforms such as:
  • Tools:
    Boundless Spatial suite, Remote View, PostGRES/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, Image Server, File Geodatabases
  • Data Formats: KML, KMZ, NITF, TIFF, JPEG, GeoPDF, and similar geo‑related formats and data structures.
• Abstracting new or legacy systems via standards‑based APIs, including Open Geospatial Consortium standards.
• Developing terrain analysis visualization and algorithms.
• Developing automated detection algorithms.
• Experience with Argo Workflows.
