Overview

At NASS, we provide the broadest set of one‑stop substation service capabilities in the country—from turnkey upgrades and asset assemblies to major repairs and testing, including transformers and breakers, switches, arresters, apparatus testing, comprehensive substation inspection programs, protection and control commissioning and repairs, and control cabinet engineering.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is between $32.00 – $35.00 per hour. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.

Job Purpose

The Field Service Technician III is a key member of our field service team responsible for assisting in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of transformers and other related equipment. Maintaining safety is the top priority. This role requires assisting with the training and mentoring of less experienced technicians and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to wet or humid conditions, temperature extremes, fumes, traffic, electrical shock hazards, noise pollution, and vibration may occur.

Responsibilities
  • Leader in Safety Culture.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety training programs and meetings.
  • Perform basic testing as a crew lead on transformer installation, maintenance, and emergency work.
  • Install, test, and maintain electrical apparatus, including transformer theory of operation knowledge.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and problem‑solving during inspections and apparatus testing.
  • Understand the theory behind and reason for testing with the ability to analyze results.
  • Create plans for testing apparatus.
  • Practical operator knowledge of the oil vacuum processing rig and top off transformers.
  • Administrative duties as assigned (inspections, job brief, and work order system).
  • Clear internal and external communication.
  • Calisto and other monitoring installations & commissioning.
Required Qualifications
  • 5 or more years of industry experience.
  • High school diploma or GED. Supplemental courses in electrical maintenance are desired.
  • Current and valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Pass a fit‑for‑duty exam.
  • Available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Able and willing to travel up to 75% as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • NCCO crane certification.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals and principles of mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions required in a power distribution facility.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and prints.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of power generation, distribution metering, and recording devices.
  • Ability to learn the practices and procedures of the industry.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
