Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $44,356 annually.
Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $50,050 annually. Proof of successful completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status must be submitted upon request of the Department of Personnel.

Incumbents in this position perform mechanical maintenance duties that include maintaining equipment and systems for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and plumbing. Examples of duties include performing preventative maintenance to equipment; installing equipment such as boilers, air handlers, exhaust fans, plumbing fixtures, motors, pumps, filter tanks, radiators, chillers, compressors, valves, piping, fittings and sewer systems and performing routine electrical repairs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for mechanical maintenance duties primarily associated with boilers, furnaces, boiler, furnaces, and air handling systems.
  • Performs general maintenance on pool filtration systems including the pumps and electric motors.
  • Input Information for operational logs and reports.
  • May be required to use blow torches for gas welding and metal cutting.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, maintenance checks, and services daily. Must have traded skills to operate the equipment required to fulfill this position.
  • Maintains equipment and systems for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and plumbing.
  • Performs preventive maintenance to equipment. Checks operation, lubricates moving parts, changes belts and filters. Pours and finishes concrete.
  • Installs equipment such as boilers, air handlers, exhaust fans, plumbing fixtures, motors, pumps, filter tanks, radiators, chillers, compressors, valves, piping, fittings, sewer systems.
  • May perform routine electrical repairs. May maintain pumps, motors, and related systems.
  • May occasionally weld, braze and cut metal using electric and gas welding and cutting equipment to fabricate, maintain and repair metal objects on city equipment, pipes, structures, etc.
  • Utilizes department equipment as needed. Installs and adjusts control units.

  • Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships.
  • Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as coworkers and the public, on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.
  • Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as tractor, trucks, overhead crane, shop bench tools, hand power tools, carpenter’s tools, plumber’s tools, welder, cutting torch, soldering iron, saws, masonry tools, tape measure and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as regulations, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, work orders, schedules, materials slips, correspondence and general operating manuals.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate surface area, volume, percentage, fractions and decimals; perform mathematical operations involving basic algebra and geometry.
