This skilled position requires advanced knowledge of electricity, plumbing, and movable equipment. It requires minimal supervision and supports large hospital campuses. The Maintenance Mechanic II operates, maintains, and repairs various electrical/plumbing systems and movable equipment. The role utilizes exceptional customer service and communication skills to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.
ResponsibilitiesOperate, maintain, and repair electrical/plumbing systems and movable equipment across large hospital campuses with minimal supervision.
Communicate with customers, read and understand technical manuals, and perform calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair of equipment.
Use computer software such as Outlook, TMS, or Nuvolo, prioritize work assignments, manage time and materials efficiently, and document work assignments in a high‑quality manner at the lowest cost to Mercy.
Achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exam before advancing to Maintenance Mechanic III.
MinimumRequired Qualifications
- Education:
None - Licensure:
Must maintain a valid driver’s license - Experience:
1 to 3 years commercial experience working with electrical, plumbing, pneumatic tube systems, beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers - Skills:
Oral and written communication, verbal ability to read and understand technical manuals, numerical ability for calculations, ability to prioritize work, spatial ability for blueprints/specifications, manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, mechanical aptitude - Tool/Software:
Outlook, TMS, Nuvolo - Exposure:
Extreme temperatures, electric shock, loud noise
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; 2 or more years of training in Technical or Vocational School - Licensure:
Electrical and/or Plumbing - Experience:
5 or more years in a facility maintenance position within a healthcare environment - Certification: ASSE 6040 training for medical gas maintenance
