POSITION SUMMARY
Park Rangers in the City of St. Louis Police Department play a vital role in protecting assets, maintaining order, and ensuring the safety of visitors at city parks, recreation centers, and forest facilities. This position requires individuals who are dedicated, alert, and able to respond effectively to various situations.
Essential Functions- Patrolling city parks and recreation centers, issuing parking tickets, and enforcing curfew regulations
- Serving as Goodwill Ambassadors to the public, providing directions and assistance
- Responding to Rec Centers with the assistance of District Officers to alarm calls for burglaries and fires
- Conducting security patrols and safeguarding life and property in assigned areas
- Must be 21 years old at the time of application
- U.S. Citizen or legal resident
- Possession of a valid Missouri driver’s license
- Obtain a City of St. Louis Armed Private Officer License or Armed Metropolitan License within 90 days of appointment
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and SLMPD directed mandatory overtime
- Completion of probationary period on rotating shifts before assignment to fixed shift
- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.)
- Basic security and emergency response procedures
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and handle challenging situations
- Proficiency in operating equipment, machinery and tools related to the job
- Strong verbal aptitude and ability to interpret various forms of information
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills in dynamic environments
- Physical capability to perform duties involving lifting, patrolling, and responding to emergencies
- Proficient in English communications, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of basic security operations and emergency response procedures

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach, grasp, talk, and hear. This position requires clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus while reading from a computer screen. Exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
