Response Officer I (Day Patrols) - OFMD
Position Summary: The Operations & Facilities Management Department (OFMD) at WashU Medicine provides essential services across the campus. The Response Officer I is a personable, service‑oriented professional who plays a crucial role in campus safety in an unarmed capacity. They patrol the campus, offer support to the community, enforce university policies and criminal laws, and assist Response Officers II and Leads during emergencies and non‑emergencies.
Responsibilities- Assist Response Officers II during emergency and non‑emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, etc.).
- Provide Emergency Management support during larger‑scale incidents.
- Perform patrols, building checks, and safety assessments.
- Assist visitors, open doors, provide escorts, and assist with way finding.
- Gather information for reports and support follow‑up tasks.
- Support parking enforcement and campus navigation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Typical shift: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (may include on‑call, evenings, and weekends).
- Requires extensive safety training and protective devices.
- Responders wear designated uniforms, primarily on foot; bike patrols and motor vehicles may be provided.
- Standing, walking, running, climbing, bending, crouching, stooping.
- Occasional lifting (25–50 lbs.).
- Operate a motor vehicle (as required).
- Use office equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- St. Louis Metropolitan Security License (within 30 days of hire).
- Driver’s license:
Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) with good driving record. - 1 year in an academic or other professional environment (Officer in an Academic or Other Professional Environment).
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
- Experience:
Security Officer in a Professional Security Organization (2 years). - Certifications:
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) – CIT International; EMT‑B – Missouri Division of Professional Registration. - Additional skills:
Computer literacy, customer service, handcuffing, law enforcement training, military training, oral and written communication, teamwork, working independently, organizational commitment.
