Position summary:This role is responsible for performing sample analysis using both quantitative and qualitative methods, ensuring compliance with EPA and accrediting authority standards through strict adherence to QA/QC protocols. The position supports laboratory operations by processing samples within required timelines, troubleshooting equipment issues, and maintaining optimal instrument performance. It includes cross-training to build proficiency across lab functions, validating analytical data, and contributing to State inspection and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform sample analysis using quantitative and qualitative methods; process samples within required holding times and laboratory goals, understand & follow QA/QC protocols to ensure all data generated meets EPA and accrediting authority standards as well as customer and laboratory requirements.
- Cross-trains with colleagues with more experience to develop competence in all areas of lab.
- Identify routine problems and conduct basic troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment and processes to ensure continued sample analysis and optimum instrument performance.
- Provide secondary review and validation of data produced across several analytical methods; participate in assigned preparation for and follow-up to external and internal audits.
- Provides response and follow-up to laboratory inquiries from utility subsidiaries, business partners and clients groups within requested timeframe
- Evaluate and monitor supplies and other laboratory costs to assist in maintaining the lab budget.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field required. Relevant laboratory work experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
- 0-2 years environmental laboratory experience required
- Experience in analytical methods for Drinking Water, Wastewater, and environmental matrices preferred
- Strong quantitative skills (e.g., analytical, technical, problem solving).
- Strong process management skills (e.g., organization, time management, attention to detail).
- Ability to adjust to change as needed to meet the needs of the business (e.g., emergency or rush scenarios that require change of prioritization of daily tasks, adjustments based on updates/changes set by environmental agencies, etc.)
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry and scientific laboratory techniques.
- Computer literacy (competent in use of Word and Excel, LIMS and other software as needed)
- Fundamental knowledge of instrumentation such as IC, HPLC, ICP, ICPMS, GC, GCMS, TOC, UV, or AA preferred.
