Molecular Biologist

Description

Molecular biology is foundational to this organizations plant research pipeline and to the development of new research technologies that drive scientific discovery. This role supports a high‑throughput molecular biology team responsible for producing DNA for multiple internal research partners. The consultant will contribute to DNA cloning and production workflows, operate within both automated and manual laboratory processes, and learn specialized internal techniques to support a growing and dynamic project portfolio.

This is an early‑career role that requires prior hands‑on molecular cloning experience, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a collaborative, production‑focused environment.

Position

Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform molecular biology and DNA cloning activities to support internal Bayer research teams

Support DNA production at scale for downstream partners, including batching, tracking, and documenting deliverables within internal data systems

Work within partially automated workflows as well as hands‑on laboratory processes

Provide on‑the‑floor laboratory support as part of a plant biology-focused scientific team

Ensure compliance with ISO
9001, safety standards, and best practices related to:

Training and documentation

Laboratory operations

Automation workflows

Accurately document work, investigate deviations, and support resolution efforts when issues arise

Collaborate with internal customers, including:

Plant Biotechnology

Transformation teams

Protein Sciences

Regulatory groups

Assay Development teams

Learn and execute specialized internal techniques not typically taught in academic labs

Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and workflows as demand scales

Work methodically with strong attention to detail in a fast‑paced, production environment

Skills

Molecular Biology techniques

DNA cloning

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, or a related scientific field

Hands‑on experience with molecular biology techniques; DNA cloning experience is required

Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, tools, and internal data systems

Experience following best‑practice documentation and laboratory procedures

Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically

Comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification, and learning through feedback

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively on a team

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience

Prior experience supporting production‑scale laboratory work

Familiarity with automated laboratory workflows

Experience working in a regulated or compliance‑driven environment (ISO, quality systems, or similar)

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
