Overview
Position Summary
Cancer genomes present an interesting and exciting challenge to address how novel and recurrent somatic changes impact the development and progression of malignancy. The Gomez lab is focused on the analysis of high throughput genomic data and the application of bioinformatic techniques with the goal of improving cancer care and developing personalized medicine techniques. Additionally, the Gomez lab has a particular focus on increasing the application of genomic tools and technologies to populations that are currently underrepresented in biomedicine.
We firmly believe that everyone should benefit from the advances of precision medicine. We are dedicated to supporting equity in the application of medicine that is guided by advanced genomic technologies.
Our research projects have the potential to cover a wide range of topics. Currently, we are working on questions related to the etiology of blood cancers - specifically lymphoma and multiple myeloma. In our current projects, we are applying single cell genetic tools to describe the transcriptomic landscape of Hodgkin lymphoma. We are also interested in the application of spatially resolved transcriptomic data to our Hodgkin lymphoma projects.
Applicants with experience or interest in this sort of data are encouraged to apply. We are also using single cell sequencing technologies to understand the biological factors that contribute to the health disparities that are associated with African Americans and multiple myeloma.
We are committed to training all interested students and staff to use computational approaches to address the biological questions our lab is focused on. We are equally interested in trainees and staff with biology-focused or computer science-focused backgrounds. If you are interested in studying cancer and would like to address equity issues in cancer genomics, we would love to hear from you.
