Job Summary
Provides direct nursing care in the NICU in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
Responsibilities- Cares for patients with life‑threatening, medically complex critical illness or diagnosis.
- Delivers highly skilled care using technology and complex interventions.
- Initiates emergency treatment, including infant resuscitation and advanced life support procedures.
- Implements & monitors patient care plans, records and communicates patient condition.
- Serves as the primary coordinator for interdisciplinary patient care.
- Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
- Assesses and coordinates patient discharge planning needs with the health‑care team.
- Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing care, ensuring age‑specific and clinical needs are met.
- Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics and SSM Health professional nursing standards.
- Maintains constant alertness and operates safely.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school or education equivalency for licensing.
- Six months’ experience as a registered nurse.
- Constant use of oral communication.
- Standing and walking frequently; frequent lifting of 0‑25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, keyboard use, and data entry.
- Use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances; identify colors.
- Use of hearing for oral communication and alarms.
- Occasional lifting of 25‑50 lbs, patient handling, and repetitive foot/leg movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
State of Illinois:
Basic Life Support (BLS) HCP, Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, Advanced Life Support (ALS) or one of the following:
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Essentials, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
Night Shift, 7 P – 7:30 A, 36 hours per week; every third weekend plus holiday requirement; no on‑call.
