Position Summary

Join to apply for the Nurse Practitioner - Surgical Oncology role at Washington University in St. Louis
. This clinic position runs a patient schedule 4 days a week with one day for administrative tasks. After a 6‑month probation, the admin day may be from home. Clinic hours are 8a‑4p, and you may need to stay past 4p depending on flow. APPs see about 18‑22 patients per clinic day. You will see breast, endocrine, and melanoma patients, including new and returning patients.

The clinic volume is typically 18‑22 patients with a 1‑hour lunch break. The location is the Siteman Cancer Center at BJH in Central West End, with additional patients starting 2026 at MoBap.

Day‑to‑day duties include seeing patients in clinic (new, returns, and postoperative), documenting notes, and following up on patient results.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including obtaining history, performing assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and managing acute and chronic disease conditions.
  • Use prescriptive authority and referral to other providers as appropriate within scope of practice.
  • Provide counseling and education on preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Ensure accuracy of medical records and maintain required reports and statistics.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Participate in clinical research study projects, monitoring subjects and providing education.
  • Follow departmental policies, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Enhance professional growth through educational programs and literature review.
Working Conditions
  • Office environment with exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and chemicals.
  • Physical effort: sitting at desk or table, standing or walking, bending, crouching, stooping, and occasional lifting (25 lbs or less).
  • Equipment: office, lab, and clinical/diagnostic equipment.
Education & Certifications

Required:

M.S.N. – Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner.

Licensure:
Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) – Illinois and Missouri. Basic Life Support – American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Certified Nurse Practitioner – Illinois and Missouri.

  • No specific work experience required, but you must obtain APN licensure within three months of hire.

Salary Range

$86,300.00 – $ / Annually. Salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
