Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach.
Job Responsibilities and RequirementsEssential Functions / Responsibilities
1) Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment. Documents findings and educates patient/family; assesses post-op/post-invasive procedure patients; plans discharge education and care; reassesses patient status per plan of care.
2) Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, diagnoses, labs, tests, procedures, orders, protocols and standards of care. Identifies goals and interventions and incorporates disease-specific evidenced-based practice.
3) Provides and documents nursing interventions based on needs, plan of care and changes in patient status; collaborates with health team; communicates handoffs; administers medications and IV fluids per policy; completes referrals; requests consultations; provides education and discharge planning; clarifies and implements physician orders; assists procedures; documents readbacks for orders; handles emergency orders as needed; monitors changes and involves family in decision-making;
applies infection control practices.
4) Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition; evaluates effectiveness of care and education; modifies plan of care as indicated; reports significant changes to physician; problem solves and uses appropriate authority lines; follows occurrence reporting policy.
5) Specialized Care:
Provides specialized care to high-risk patients including restraints and pain management with documentation; recognizes abuse, reports appropriately; maintains safety and infection control practices.
6) Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice; adheres to quality standards, policies and procedures; participates in education and governance; stays current with hospital information and policies; participates in Shared Governance and unit-based activities.
7) Professional relationships:
Relates to coworkers professionally; orients/precepts new staff; collaborates; delegates appropriately; communicates plan of care; supervises students/new staff as applicable.
8) Safety/Infection Control:
Practices safety and infection control; hand hygiene; safe patient handling; maintains a safe environment; reports risk management concerns; completes annual mandatory requirements (licenses, BLS, vaccinations, ethics, safety, security training, etc.).
9) Service:
Delivers service excellence to patients by timely, high quality care; demonstrates courtesy, confidentiality and effective communication; ensures prompt call light handling and privacy; provides education and handoffs; collaborates to maintain patient satisfaction and cost-effective care; adheres to AIDET and hospital mission.
10) Performance Improvement and Evidence Based Practice:
Participates in unit goals, data collection, process improvement and research activities; maintains nursing quality indicators; participates in performance improvement projects and occurrence reviews.
11) Age-Appropriate Care:
Provides care aligned with adult/geriatric needs; assesses and interprets age-specific data; involves family in decision-making; delivers department-specific care.
12) Cost-Effective Services:
Uses resources efficiently; documents charges; prioritizes tasks and utilizes non-clinical time for education and audits.

Minimum Education
:
Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri
