Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Psychiatry department includes three inpatient units and an outpatient ECT unit, providing high‑quality care through group activity, music therapy, and individualized one‑to‑one care. There are 46 inpatient beds across Intensive, Medicine, and Geriatric Psych units. The team cares for a broad range of psychiatric illnesses in a safe, patient‑centered environment.
Role PurposeProvides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities- Promote patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment and educate patients and families on illness management and post‑treatment home care, including medication administration.
- Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance and engage in professional development.
- Develop, implement, and document individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver, ensuring communication across the continuum of care.
- Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care and assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
- Maintain constant state of alertness and safe working conditions for this safety‑sensitive position.
