Volunteer Coordinator

Overview

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of the Volunteer Coordinator is to organize and direct activities of the volunteer program assisting with the operation and maintenance of the Kirkwood Park system. This includes promotion of the program, recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers, and administrative duties related to the program's operation.

Function under the direct supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation.

• Develops, prepares, and maintains volunteer handbook, including descriptive information, processes, and policies.
• Develops and initiates promotional efforts for the volunteer program, including news releases, flyers, newsletters, and electronic media submissions.
• Counsils volunteer candidate interviews, determines qualification of candidates for volunteer service.
• Working with park maintenance staff members, including Superintendent of Parks and Horticulturist to schedule volunteers and their assignments.
• Maintain attendance records and prepares metrics and documentation of volunteer efforts.
• Coordinates orientation and training sessions for volunteers.
• Schedules, promotes, and conducts volunteer special events.
• Schedules, promotes, and conducts volunteer recognition events.
• Assists Superintendent of Parks with development of operational budget for volunteer program.
• Procures and distributes volunteer program equipment and supplies.
• Manages the needs of the volunteers for the Kirkwood Community Garden

• Ability to plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the activities of volunteer workers.
• Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both orally, and in writing.
• Knowledge of promotional techniques related to volunteer programs
• Basic knowledge of park maintenance techniques and equipment.
