Machinist Apprentice

Overview

A machinist apprentice sets up CNC and manual machines, inspects and/or grinds parts to design specifications in the tool room as required when inspection duties are completed. The individual sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal, including precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. This individual may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Will complete an 8,000 hour training program focused on achieving a Journeyman Machinist status. This position requires a first shift work schedule. Hydromat's workplace is climate controlled through all weather seasons.

• Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments from metal.
• Inspect parts and ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines.
• Apply knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
• Complete an 8,000 hour training program focused on achieving Journeyman Machinist status.

• High school diploma or GED
• NIMS level I credentials or equivalent basic machining knowledge
• Must be self-motivated and work well in a team environment
• Willingness to learn

• NIMS level II is a plus
• Technical Associate Degree highly preferred

• Start accruing vacation from day one; 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of PTO in the first year, increasing to 120 hours of vacation after three years
