WashU's Division of Student Affairs seeks a residential life professional for the position of Residential Community Director. The Division is committed to advancing the educational mission of the university through resources and experiences outside the classroom that prepare students for lifelong success.
The Residential Community Director (RCD) is a full‑time, live‑in position that manages day‑to‑day community development initiatives and services to create supportive and welcoming residential communities. This is a 3‑year, time‑limited role. The start date is negotiable, with the first year ending on June 30th of that academic year. Subsequent years run from July 1st to June 30th.
This position supervises Resident Assistants (RAs) and, if applicable, an Assistant Residential Community Director (ARCD). The RCD advises a residential programming board, develops and implements residential learning programs, and collaborates with staff and faculty to create living/learning communities that enrich the students' university experience.
Key responsibilities include providing crisis intervention, educating residents on policies and standards, managing the residential community budget, collaborating with facilities and housekeeping, and participating in departmental committees.

PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities Supervision
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 6‑16 undergraduate Resident Advisors.
- Develop, implement and facilitate ongoing in‑service training for hall staff with emphasis on community development, programming, and human relations issues.
- Organize and facilitate weekly RA staff meetings.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate an Assistant Residential Community Director (ARCD) (if applicable).
- Support additional residential student staff and programming (e.g., student tutors, technology liaisons) (if applicable).
- Create, implement, and evaluate the Community Engagement Model to ensure dynamic and educational programming in the community.
- Cultivate a residential environment grounded in social justice values and aligned with the Department’s Diversity Statement.
- Utilize restorative justice philosophy and practices as a learning tool for students in the conduct process.
- Work with live‑in and/or assigned faculty to enhance student and faculty interaction in residential areas (if applicable).
- Advise the residential programming board with a specific emphasis on community development.
- Work with students and faculty mentors as part of the LLC program (upper‑class themed housing communities) (if applicable).
- Manage residential area budget and departmental accounting procedures.
- Maintain a system of intervention and referral for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties, collaborating with campus partners.
- Understand, communicate, and hold students accountable to university policies and procedures.
- Educate and inform residents of Residential Life policies and community standards.
- Provide accountability and restore community impact for policy violations through educational and restorative obligations.
- Serve in the On‑Call duty rotation to provide 24‑hour incident and crisis response to the larger residential community.
- Serve on Residential Education committees providing leadership to various components of the Residential Education program and experience.
