Job Summary

Core & Main (CNM) is immediately seeking an organized and experienced head of construction & facilities to support our real‑estate expansion strategy and facility management across the US and Canada. This position reports to the Senior Director, Real Estate, and will oversee a team of construction managers and key third‑party relationships essential to the growth and continued operations of the real‑estate portfolio.

The role requires balancing hands‑on project management with senior‑level leadership and program management while working to position the function for consistency, predictability, and scalability. The successful candidate will be comfortable in a high‑paced environment, applying best practices in warehouse construction to ensure on‑time project completion and maintain a service‑oriented mindset.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
  • Lead the development and execution of a construction & facilities program aligned with organizational goals while building and managing a high‑performing, agile team.
  • Oversee construction projects and capital planning, balancing internal resources and external partnerships to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery.
  • Directly manage a team of construction managers, providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts to ensure cost control and quality service delivery.
  • Manage site assessments, project scoping, due diligence, and pre‑construction meetings. Quickly prepare and turnaround scope, budgetary guidance, and timeline estimates in support of Real Estate negotiations and approvals.
  • Pre‑qualify site feasibility for zoning and usage requirements.
  • Maintain full cidadão compliance with OSHA, ADA, NFPA, environmental, and local building codes, obtaining all necessary and proper permits or other documentation (Certificates of Occupancy).
  • Manage construction project timelines, critical dates, and budgets as well as all associated communication and reporting.
  • Ensure team accountability against milestone tracking reports and project timelines.
  • Manage project risk proactively and actively, regularly communicating progress with all key stakeholders (real estate, field and branch leadership, and third‑party vendors).
  • Review pay applications, sworn statements, and lien waivers for compliance and accuracy.
  • Perform additional duties as may be required to support relocations, remodels, and facility repair and maintenance projects or programs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7‑10+ years of directly related experience in a construction manager role with industrial and light industrial warehouses.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience and demonstrated ability in running a national construction program and negotiating/managing critical vendor partnerships at scale.
  • Experience and proficiency implementing and leveraging construction management software.
  • Ability to read and understand construction contracts, specifications, surveys, blueprints and other construction‑related drawings.
  • Proficiency in understanding zoning, construction schedules, building (IBC) and fire suppression code (NFPA), OSHA, ADA, and tenant improvement buildout scopes.
  • Proficiency in navigating and building trust with AHJs.
