Underwriting Specialist / Executive Underwriter – Middle Market

Zurich North America is hiring an UA Analyst, Zurich E&S to join our E&S Financial Lines team in the Chicago office. This role is based in Chicago but offers flexible hybrid work (3 days in office, others remote).

• Review, evaluate, and analyze risk exposures, controls, loss history, financial condition, and recommend or execute underwriting decisions on submission acceptance or declination within established risk appetite.
• Anticipate underwriting exposure information needs, proactively seek alternative data sources using underwriting tools.
• Analyze and recommend input in policy rating, subjective pricing, policy construction, coverages, exclusions, mandatory forms for accurate quoting and renewal.
• Develop and execute account servicing solutions independently and collaboratively, responsible end‑to‑end servicing processes.
• Drive broker/agent/distributor/customer interactions and on‑site calls related to account servicing matters.
• Develop new team members, provide coaching and support peers; problem‑solve complex transactions.
• Support special projects as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years experience in Insurance, Underwriting, or Market Facing area.
• Or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, Associate Degree and 2+ years experience.
• Or High School Diploma/Equivalent and 4+ years experience.

• Knowledge of insurance industry, legal and regulatory environment.
• Data collection and analysis experience.
• Experience with processing, rating, and policy management systems.
• Customer service experience.
• Problem‑solving experience.
• Product portfolio servicing across multiple lines.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.

• Underwriting philosophy and techniques knowledge.
• National and local insurance filing regulations and guidelines knowledge.
• International insurance programs knowledge.

Compensation The combined salary range is $74,300 - $161,000. Underwriting Specialist range $74,300 - $121,700;
Executive Underwriter $98,300 - $161,000. Short‑term incentive bonuses: 10% and 15%, respectively.
