We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Developer with over 10 years of experience in software development, architecture, and solution design to join our Life Insurance Line of Business (LOB). The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AWS Mainframe Modernization (AWS M2), strong secondary skills in Power BI
, and exposure to Python and Generative AI (GenAI) technologies. A strong background in the AWS cloud stack is essential.

This is a strategic technical role requiring experience in mainframe modernization, cloud-native development, data visualization, and emerging technologies to support transformation initiatives in the Life Insurance domain.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical implementation of AWS M2 for mainframe application modernization projects.
  • Design and develop scalable, resilient architectures for migrating legacy systems to AWS cloud.
  • Work closely with enterprise architects and stakeholders to define modernization strategies.
  • Integrate and visualize business data using Power BI for analytics and reporting.
  • Leverage Python for scripting, automation, and building GenAI-driven tools or prototypes.
  • Apply GenAI capabilities to enhance automation, decision-making, or user experience within Life Insurance applications.
  • Drive best practices in architecture, coding standards, and cloud Dev Ops within a regulated environment.
  • Mentor junior developers and collaborate with cross-functional teams across architecture, QA, Dev Ops, and business teams.
  • Ensure security, compliance, and performance requirements are met throughout the software development lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, systems architecture, and solution design.
  • Proven experience with AWS Mainframe Modernization (AWS M2), including tools like Micro Focus, Blu Age, or AWS Migration Hub.
  • Hands‑on experience with Power BI for dashboards, data modeling, and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, Cloud Watch, RDS, Dynamo

    DB, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Python, especially in automation or data processing contexts.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools or platforms (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, Lang Chain).
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum‑based development environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect) preferred.
  • Experience in the Life Insurance or broader insurance domain.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools, Dev Ops practices, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
  • Experience with legacy modernization and rehosting strategies.
  • This position works at the Kemper office.

The range for this position is $86,200 to $143,600. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and Kemper benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.).
