Summary
Spire is seeking a
Payroll Specialist
to work in downtown St Louis (MO) to join a strong payroll team with a great work environment. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll; producing and maintaining payroll and payroll-related records for Spire Union and Non-Union Employees. The Payroll Specialist collaborates closely with HR and Finance teams to maintain data integrity, support audits, and ensure seamless payroll experience.
Attention to detail, confidentiality, and strong knowledge of payroll systems and regulations are essential for success in this position.
Timely process multi-state biweekly union and non-union payrolls, this includes ensuring accuracy of hours worked and exception time entered
Review payroll reports to determine discrepancies and corrective action needed before and after payroll completion
Research and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing with associates and other departments with questions, concerns or requests regarding payroll, payroll taxes and with holdings
Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local wage and hour requirements
Manage data collection, calculation of wages, overtime and deductions (taxes, garnishments, union dues and benefits)
Assist with special projects, continuous improvement including system updates & testing, data audits and reconciliations as needed
Review and/or purge filing as per the record retention requirements
All other duties as assigned

- High School Diploma
required
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) - Preferred
- (at least) 3 years of experience processing payroll
required
;multi-state andunion payroll experience preferred - Experience working in a payroll system
required
; experience with ADP preferred - Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and federal & state wage and hour laws
required - Ability to process large volumes of data with precision and spot discrepancies quickly
required - Capable of troubleshooting payroll issues and reconciling accounts
required - Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams)
