Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The Central Sterile Processing Department is dedicated to providing courteous and reliable service. It is responsible for reprocessing instrumentation and distributing supplies for surgeons, labor & delivery, and emergency department.
Role PurposeThe Sterile Processing Technician performs central sterile processing functions, including decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the OR and other hospital areas. The technician maintains and controls sterile and non‑sterile supplies, identifies and remedies equipment and process failures and hazards, and maintains accurate records.
Responsibilities- Assemble and process instrument sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritize trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
- Utilize and troubleshoot steam sterilizers.
- Follow proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
- Disassemble, decontaminate, and process instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
- Ensure instrumentation is reassembled correctly and functioning properly.
- Maintain constant state of alertness to perform this safety‑sensitive position.
