Position Overview
The St. Louis County Department of Public Health seeks a Nutrition Technician to assist with nutrition counseling, assess and refer clients to healthcare and social services, promote breastfeeding in the WIC clinic and community, and encourage healthy eating.
Employment and CompensationThis is a full-time, grant-funded position located at the Koch Park office (2137 Charbonier, Florissant, MO 63031). The starting hourly wage ranges from $16.39 to $19.67. Benefits include a comprehensive package, generous paid time off, and eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program ().
Scope of Practice- Determine WIC eligibility by obtaining and assessing anthropometric, hematologic data and dietary intake.
- Assess and assign health and nutrition risk factors according to WIC policy and procedures.
- Provide nutrition counseling and refer clients to healthcare or social services based on identified needs.
- Promote breastfeeding, provide education and support, instruct on breast pump use, and maintain inventory.
- Document health assessments, education, referrals, and participant goals in the WIC computer system.
- Issue eWIC cards for age-appropriate nutritious food and instruct on use at the grocery store.
- Assist in the development and implementation of DPH WIC nutrition goals and objectives.
- Perform related work as required.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 semester hours in food and nutrition from a 4‑year program, including courses in diet therapy or medical nutrition therapy I & II and community nutrition or nutrition in the life cycle.
- Transcripts may be required to verify coursework prior to interview.
A selection committee evaluates applicants based on education, experience, supplemental responses, reference investigations, and other relevant information. Only candidates meeting or exceeding the minimum qualifications are invited for interview. Applicants must score at least 70% for eligibility. Interview scores rank candidates; the top five candidates are certified to the Director/Appointing Authority for final appointment. All selected candidates will undergo a urinalysis drug screen.

All newly hired employees must provide proof of COVID‑19 vaccination as required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Acceptable proof includes CDC vaccination cards, provider documentation, electronic health records, or state immunization system records. Full vaccination is defined as receipt of an FDA EUA‑approved vaccine series (two doses of a two‑dose vaccine or one dose of a single‑dose vaccine, or a three‑dose mRNA series for immunocompromised individuals).
Individuals with medical or religious contraindications may request an exemption and will be required to wear face coverings and submit to weekly testing.
