Position Summary

The Tax Accountant II's primary focus is supporting the income and franchise tax obligations of McCarthy Holdings and the related services it provides to subsidiaries, affiliates, and its parent company. This role will work with the Company's internal and external tax professionals to meet existing reporting requirements, review implications of new business lines and acquisitions, and research tax obligations and incentives connected to various service offerings.

This role will also support state and local filings, including transaction-based tax (use tax, gross receipts), and new jurisdiction registrations and research. This position reports directly to the Tax Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of Federal, State and local income tax filings including requests from external tax preparers, tax authorities, and any audits.
  • Prepare and submit state and local non-income tax returns on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis for multiple related corporations.
  • Prepare book-to-tax work papers and apportionment calculations for the Company, its subsidiaries, and construction joint ventures.
  • Assist with quarterly taxable income projections and year-end accrual calculations.
  • Conduct research and contribute to special projects applying changing tax laws to business operations.
  • Assist in responding to tax notices and participate in the handling of tax audits.
  • Manage taxable benefit reporting for the Company's fleet vehicle program, including maintenance of driver database, personal use data collection, and taxable benefit calculations.
  • Assist in guiding and consulting with Corporate and Regional teams, including field partners, on certain tax matters.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvement.
  • Work on ad hoc special projects and reports, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
  • 2-4+ years of relevant tax experience.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Experience with multi-level organizational structure and the related tax implications.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, including proficiency in creating and managing pivot tables, lookup/reference functions, as well as statistical and logical functions.
  • Ability to work independently and self-navigate through issues to implement solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong accounting, critical thinking, advanced analytical, research, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
