Join EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE) as a Senior professional. This role involves building and applying expertise in multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations across multiple industries.

The opportunity

Our COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects. You’ll develop as a high‑level practitioner, take on new responsibilities, and work with dedicated mentors and training programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice and guidance to clients on complex sales and use tax issues.
  • Conduct research on clients’ business operations and build lasting relationships.
  • Identify applicable tax exemptions, exclusions, and potential over‑payment opportunities.
  • Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor.
  • Develop clear, intelligent plans for tax recoveries.
  • Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims.
  • Participate in, and supervise, a team of professionals, ensuring they have opportunities to reach their full potential.

  • Identifying applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.
  • Identifying potential over‑payment opportunities or risks and communicating these to clients.
  • Monitoring current tax law changes.
  • Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries.
  • Preparing and defending sales and use tax refund claims.
  • Participating on a motivated team of professionals.
  • Supervising a motivated team, guaranteeing they have the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to reach their full potential.
To qualify for the role, you must have
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.
  • A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
  • Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or the ability to sit for a state bar.

What We Offer You
  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $81,700 to $135,000. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $98,100 to $153,500.

    Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team‑led and leader‑enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40‑60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
