We are seeking an experienced
Building Automation / Controls Estimator
to lead pre-construction estimating efforts for commercial and industrial HVAC control systems in our St. Louis, MO office. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, detailed, and profitable proposals for new construction and retrofit projects. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience estimating systems utilizing
Distech Controls, Tridium (Niagara), and/or Delta Controls
platforms and understands the full lifecycle of a controls project — from takeoff through commissioning. This role requires technical depth, financial discipline, and strong coordination with project management, engineering, and subcontractors.

• Performing detailed takeoffs from construction drawings, specifications, and control diagrams.
• Developing accurate cost estimates for building automation systems, including controllers (VAV, RTU, AHU, plant), field devices (sensors, actuators, valves, dampers), panels, integration (BACnet, Modbus, Lon), graphics, programming, and commissioning labor.
• Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor installation labor quotes.
• Preparing clear, detailed written proposals outlining scope of work, equipment quantities, inclusions/exclusions, and trade responsibilities.
• Identifying project risks, scope gaps, and coordination issues prior to bid submission.
• Participating in internal estimate review meetings and incorporating feedback before final submission.
• Maintaining and improving estimating tools, templates, and cost databases.
• Supporting Business Development with budgetary pricing, conceptual estimates, and project turnover documentation for project management.

• 7+ years of experience estimating Building Automation / Controls projects.
• Experience with at least one major controls platform, such as Distech Controls, Tridium/Niagara, or Delta Controls.
• Strong understanding of BACnet systems architecture, network topology, panel design, sequence of operations, and HVAC equipment control strategies.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical construction drawings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to develop clear, detailed proposals.
