The Senior / Principal Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands‑on engineering support for electrical power systems, process controls, automation, and instrumentation across Orchestra Life Sciences’ manufacturing and development facilities. This role will partner closely with Manufacturing, Facilities, Quality, Validation, and external engineering firms to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations in a regulated GMP environment.
At the Principal level, this role will also serve as a technical authority, mentoring engineers and influencing long‑term automation and controls strategy.
Key Responsibilities Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering- Design, review, and support electrical power distribution systems (low and medium voltage), motor control centers (MCCs), panels, and field devices.
- Specify, install, and maintain process instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, analytical) in GMP manufacturing environments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, IEEE, ISA, UL).
- Lead or support the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for manufacturing and utility systems.
- Collaborate on automation architectures for process equipment, clean utilities, and facility systems (e.g., HVAC, WFI, PW, gases).
- Develop and review control narratives, I/O lists, network architectures, and functional specifications.
- Provide EC&I leadership for capital projects from concept through commissioning and qualification.
- Interface with EPC firms, system integrators, and equipment vendors to ensure scope, quality, and schedule alignment.
- Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities (FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ) in collaboration with Quality and Validation teams.
- Ensure systems are designed and maintained in compliance with GMP, GAMP 5, and data integrity requirements.
- Support change control, deviation investigations, and root cause analyses related to automation and instrumentation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, maintainability, and safety.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical mentor for engineers and cross‑functional teams.
- Contribute to enterprise‑level automation and controls standards, best practices, and roadmaps.
- Influence long‑term facility and manufacturing automation strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
- 8+ years (Senior) or 12+ years (Principal) of EC&I experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Strong working knowledge of PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, Siemens) and industrial control systems.
- Experience supporting GMP manufacturing operations and capital projects.
- Familiarity with electrical codes, instrumentation standards, and automation best practices.
- Ability to work onsite as needed in Philadelphia, PA or St. Louis, MO.
- Experience with advanced therapy manufacturing (cell therapy, gene therapy, biologics).
