You may be eligible to participate in Skill Bridge if you: have 180 days of service or fewer remaining prior to your date of discharge and you have at least 180 continuous days of active military service. Obtain approval from your unit commander. Agree that participation in the DOD Skill Bridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.

Education and Experience Requirements

Skill Bridge Aircraft Maintenance Tech I - 2 years aviation maintenance experience (avionics, electrical, and/or mechanical) or FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate. Valid Driver’s License required.

Skill Bridge Aircraft Maintenance Tech II - 2 years aviation maintenance experience (avionics, electrical, and/or mechanical). A&P (FAA Airframe and Powerplant) license required. Valid Driver’s License required.

Skill Bridge Aircraft Maintenance Tech III - 3 years aviation maintenance experience (avionics, electrical, and/or mechanical). A&P (FAA Airframe and Powerplant) license required. Valid Driver’s License required.

Additional Education and Experience - High School Diploma or GED required. 2 years aviation maintenance experience (avionics, electrical, and/or mechanical) or FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate. Valid Driver’s License required.

Position Purpose

Under close supervision, perform or assist with various functions of aircraft maintenance, repair, replacement, and modification of key aircraft components to ensure proper operation. Perform basic aircraft maintenance and perform troubleshooting and repair duties.

Job Description – Essential Functions
  • Perform assigned maintenance and servicing of aircraft mechanical systems.
  • Repair, maintain, install, and troubleshoot mechanical and functional components of the aircraft including airframes, engine components, landing gear, electrical components, and control systems.
  • Coordinate with inspection to ensure compliance with internal and FAA inspection and documentation requirements.
  • Properly complete work order sign-offs, shift turnovers, and other paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all work accomplished meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Properly identify (tag) customer property and equipment. Store aircraft components and other customer property securely and safely.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and JSAs when operating ground support equipment.
  • Operate and oversee use of special support equipment used in removal and installations of major components.
  • Coordinate with other departments to arrange for the overhaul or repair of customer property as needed.
Additional Functions
  • Apply 6S and Lean Initiatives to keep shops, hangars, and aircraft work areas clean.
  • Properly use and maintain company-provided tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate movement of aircraft, as required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of FAA regulations, process specifications, Repair Station and Quality Control manuals, and company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
