Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for a defined portion of a project and is accountable for establishing effective working relationships with clients and managing the flow of routine information and documents to the entire project team. The Engineer maintains accurate project documentation, plans upcoming work with the Superintendent, tracks deliveries, and assists the Project Manager in monitoring project status and optimization.

This entry‑level role manages projects of minor scope (under $7M annual cost or $1M per month for ≥7 months, or 150,000+ manhours). The Engineer demonstrates proficiency in core competencies necessary to manage projects of minor scope.

Budget/Schedule/Cost Control
  • Develop, maintain, update, distribute and manage estimates.
  • Document cost estimates for change orders as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Recognize and manage critical paths within the project schedule.
  • Maintain the master schedule, updating as changes occur.
  • Count and verify quantities for the weekly labor report.
  • Assemble delivery tickets and other documentation to support invoicing; submit information to Billing Dept.
  • Review project cost reports; identify trends and provide cost‑management ideas to the Project Manager.
Management Competencies
  • Maintain the RFI process, daily reports, drawings, and submittal logs.
  • Obtain and verify all shop drawings as assigned.
  • Prepare and submit product data of materials/equipment (submittals) to the client or agent for approval.
  • Maintain accurate as‑built documents and submit them upon project completion.
  • Maintain proper safety records.
  • Coordinate support functions, including project start‑up, with internal and external teams.
  • Keep a daily log of key activities and decisions as assigned.
  • Effectively manage the change‑order and billing process and direct meetings.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with subcontractors and orient them to the project.
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance with the Project Manager.
  • Build relationships with key union contacts.
  • Understand and assist in buy‑out procedures.
Engineering Competencies
  • Understand Alberici’s quality guidelines and ensure compliance with applicable codes/standards.
  • Assist with surveying on the project site.
  • Produce or procure drawings (CAD) as needed (crane layouts, as‑built, lift points).
  • Assist in commissioning and start‑up.
Construction Means and Methods
  • Stage, prepare, phase, and sequence site logistics within budget and schedule.
  • Inspect the project regularly for deviations from accepted construction practices and client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate inspections with regulatory bodies; accompany inspectors and maintain inspection records.
  • Verify and track quantities of key materials.
  • Manage the punch list process.
  • Interact with end users.
  • Establish rapport with project team members.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, agents, or employees on site.
  • Provide information to clients/agents to ensure a positive experience.
  • Monitor contract adherence and inform the Project Manager of potential deviations.
Performance
  • Thorough knowledge of Safe Ring policies and practices.
  • Practice and enforce company safety policies; model safety as priority.
  • Contribute to building a safe project site.
  • Obtain required safety equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections.
  • Alert Superintendent or subcontractor to unsafe conditions.
  • Identify patterns of unsafe conditions and inform the Project Manager.
