The Defense Space Government Design Safety Core team within Enterprise Safety is seeking a Mid-Level (Level
3) or Senior (Level
4) Aerospace System Safety Engineer to join our organization onsite in St Louis City, MO
. Enterprise Safety works with wider design, test, modifications and sustainment organizations within/across the business units to develop and put in place the appropriate policies, procedures, capabilities, skill competencies, tool suites (Model Based Systems Engineering), standards, and training supporting product/system safety consistent with Boeing's Safety Management System (SMS), and industry best practices like ARP
4761 and Mil-Std-882E.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand the challenges related to performing safety analysis activities consistent with applicable industry standards (e.g. ARP
4754, ARP
4761, Mil-Std-882E) - Develop relevant process guidance, training content, best practice documentation, or model-based capabilities specific to system safety and mission assurance
- Contribute to our Safety Engineering College by developing training material to educate the wider engineering team on product safety fundamentals including: FHAs (functional hazard analysis), FTAs (fault tree analysis), FMEAs (failure mode & effects analysis), Development Assurance, software safety, use of newly developed tools, etc
- Investigate model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools to digitally connect, store, and integrate critical safety deliverables like Functional Hazards Assessments, Fault Trees, Cascading Effects, and advanced safety analyses
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
- Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2+ years of experience in aerospace systems including safety hazard analysis, environmental safety, air vehicle subsystems design & test, software design & test, hazardous material management or aircraft maintenance
- Ability to travel 10%
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Software Safety Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or equivalent. Experience in MIL-STD 882, JSSSEH, DO-178/DO-254
- 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience communicating verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences
- Experience with model-based engineering (MBE), model-based systems engineering (MBSE), or model-based safety analysis (MBSA) - including model-based process and tool application or development
- Experience applying industry standards (e.g. ARP
4754, ARP
4761A, Mil-Std-882E) - Experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration
- Systems Engineering experience in fundamentals including: requirements validation/verification, functional integration, NxN, Phase A/B/C, and Concept of Operations
- Experience working with Agile methodologies
- Experience leading cross functional teams and complex projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working effectively with engineering teams
- Experience with tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody or Enterprise Architect and knowledge of SysML and UAF
