Position Summary

The Project (Design) Engineer is a mid‑level engineering role responsible for supporting, designing, and executing capital and process improvement projects within our food manufacturing operations. This role focuses on process and packaging systems in a high‑volume baking environment and requires hands‑on technical expertise, strong project execution skills, and effective collaboration across operations, maintenance, quality, and external partners.

The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in mechanical and process engineering, experience with industrial equipment, and a passion for building reliable, efficient manufacturing systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and update process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for baking and packaging systems
  • Design, specify, and support mechanical components and equipment for production lines
  • Lead and support capital projects, including equipment upgrades, new line installations, and process optimization initiatives
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, quality, safety, and automation teams to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including layouts, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and troubleshooting activities
  • Ensure all designs and projects comply with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Interface with vendors, OEMs, contractors, and integrators to ensure successful project execution
  • Utilize ERP systems (SAP preferred) for project tracking, procurement, and documentation
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability
  • Provide ongoing technical support for production and maintenance teams as needed
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Associate’s degree with equivalent relevant work experience considered
Experience
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Food, baking, packaging, or consumer goods manufacturing experience strongly preferred
Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of processing and packaging systems
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret PFDs and P&IDs
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Solid Works, Inventor, or similar)
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Understanding of machine design principles and process engineering fundamentals
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem‑solving capabilities
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
