GIS CAD Technician

Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District

Pay Range

Base pay: $61,289 – $75,816 per year

Overview

Under general supervision, performs entry and interpretation of information into CAD software and related equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Design: Using industry-standard CAD and office software, create and modify civil engineering or survey drawings, specifications, and exhibits; perform calculations, prepare maps, and produce drawings and data for input into an engineering construction database and GIS. Utilize GIS data to prepare plans, exhibits, and customized maps. Assist in coordinating and scheduling work loads. Organize, maintain, track, and restore files as needed.

    Occasionally visit the field to observe and record construction conditions.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.
Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or GED; 15 college credit hours in design drafting, computer‑aided drafting, or related fields, with at least 6 credit hours in CAD or cartography; and two years of practical experience in GIS or CAD.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering drawing, CAD, and cartographic principles, procedures, and practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS environment and working knowledge of relational databases.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Survey field experience and familiarity with data collector software and GPS.
  • Experience with property research and plotting legal descriptions.
  • Familiarity with hydrology and hydraulics.
  • Considerable skill in forming and maintaining effective working relationships with engineers and designers; skill in maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state in which the employee resides.
  • Must pass a Non‑DOT drug test in accordance with MSD’s "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures."
