The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years‑of‑service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.
LocationThis position will be located at the St. Louis Regional Office at 1390 Timberlake Manor Parkway, 2nd Floor, Chesterfield, MO 63017.
Responsibilities- Perform engineer‑level inspections and routine site construction inspections of both wastewater treatment and public drinking water systems to determine compliance with applicable statutes and regulations and document with reports in accordance with Department standards and formats. Provide technical engineering assistance and follow‑up to ensure compliance is achieved.
- Develop compliance agreements and referral packages for follow‑up corrective actions as necessary.
- In accordance with the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act, evaluate engineering documents, including engineering reports, detailed plans and specifications, and other submittals for public water systems, wastewater, stormwater, and nonpoint source projects to ensure compliance with standard engineering practices, regulatory requirements, and protection of public health and the environment.
- Conduct construction and final inspections of both public water systems and wastewater treatment facilities, including but not limited to new drinking water system wells, drinking water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping facilities, storage tanks and water line inspections.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to the regulated community, public citizens, private engineering consultants, legislators, and others with regard to laws, regulations, and engineering requirements through in‑person or online meetings, written communications, and presentations.
- Respond to complaints and environmental emergencies related to both wastewater and public drinking water systems: investigate citizen complaints and develop final reports of complaint investigation.
- Provide support to other department team members in regard to civil infrastructure construction, drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater, and stormwater pollution projects.
- Attend/participate in statewide engineering training and discussions to be aware of issues, decisions, new technologies, and ensure consistency at the Regional Office.
- Special assignments as directed by management.
- NOTE:
This position includes driving within our nine‑county regional office boundary. - Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination is preferred.
- This position requires obtaining and maintaining operator certifications for wastewater treatment and drinking water treatment and distribution. If you do not currently possess these certifications, you will be given six months to obtain the first one and another six months to obtain the second certification.
