Position Summary

The Senior Piping Designer will serve as a lead piping designer on projects utilizing AutoCAD Plant 3D and provide mentoring and coaching to peers. This role will assist the manager with the creation and maintenance of pipe department standard drawings, blocks, templates, and Plant 3D pipe specifications. The position requires initiative, ownership of project work, and strong personal leadership.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop 3D piping models from P&IDs, specifications, and equipment information
  • Mentor and coach less experienced designers to support efficient pipe routing and best practices
  • Provide technical support and collaborate with engineering and project management throughout project execution
  • Assist in resolving complex piping design challenges
  • Support the creation, maintenance, and enforcement of department standard drawings, blocks, templates, and Plant 3D pipe specifications
  • Lead 3D model design reviews
  • Create accurate and constructible designs to reduce fabrication errors
  • Create and revise P&IDs, PFDs, piping orthographics, and isometric drawings
  • Assemble fabrication and installation drawing packages
  • Create, read, and understand line lists, valve lists, and tie‑in lists
  • Apply basic knowledge of pipe stress in piping systems
  • Provide proper pipe support details, locations, and spans
  • Review and redline vendor drawings for equipment and pipe components
  • Conduct peer reviews to ensure compliance with engineering standards and client specifications
  • Check drawings for accuracy, codes, and required specifications
  • Create and maintain pipe specifications and catalogs within Plant 3D
Knowledge / Skill / Ability / Education / Experience
  • Associate degree in Computer‑Aided Drafting or related field preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a pipe designer required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D required (proficiency will be tested)
  • Proficient with Navisworks Freedom/Simulate/Manage
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Vault preferred
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with varied scope and manage priorities
  • Ability to learn new skills and adapt quickly
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Ability to work hands‑on, multi‑task, and collaborate across disciplines
  • Ability to work with shop/fabrication leads to resolve constructability concerns
  • Ability to interact professionally with co‑workers, clients, vendors, and other business partners

  • Valid driver’s license required for travel between St. Louis, MO and Red Bud, IL
