Special Needs / Learning Disabilities, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
Position: Special education certified tutor/teacher for the school year up to 29 hours at $43 per hour. Services will be provided in South St. Louis County
.
Status: 6 - 29 hours per week, as needed, for AFTER SCHOOL HOURS with a minimum of two evenings available per week.
Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited school in a related field
- Must have a Missouri certification in special education
- Requires a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in special education and/or general education
- Experience in providing educational services to children and/or adolescents who have educational disabilities or learning difficulties.
- Ability to learn and use computer and web based programs consistently
Reports to: Special Education Supervisor
PayPay: $43 per hour
OverviewThe Special Education Teacher/Tutor provides individualized, after-school tutoring in Reading, Math, Writing or Executive Functioning to support children in building academic skills, confidence, and independence. The teacher assesses each child's current strengths and areas of growth and designs instruction that is responsive, engaging, and aligned with curriculum expectations. Children served may have identified learning differences or may be experiencing academic challenges without a formal diagnosis, and instruction is tailored to meet each child where they are developmentally and academically.
The Special Education Teacher collaborates with families and, when appropriate, school personnel to support carryover of strategies and skills. Instruction takes place in an after-school setting and emphasizes evidence-based practices, positive relationships, and a strengths-based approach to helping children succeed.
Responsibilities- To provide a professional assessment of each child's weaknesses and strengths as they relate to school subjects and/or educational diagnosis.
- To maintain an online web based account for progress towards goals following each tutoring session.
- Submit billing in a timely manner.
- Maintain contact with parents to keep them informed of student's progress
- Any other duties as specified by the supervisor.
