St. Louis, Missouri-based EVNTIV, an innovative event planning and entertainment agency is looking for a Technical Manager with 4+ years experience in managing audio / visual and scenic elements for events, meetings and entertainment programs.

Overview

The Technical Manager is responsible for the management of Audio/Visual (A/V) elements for a wide range of events taking place in St. Louis, Missouri, and around the world. This position reports to the Technical Director and requires collaboration with Evntiv leadership, the sales team, and Project Managers to design, specify, order, and manage A/V elements.

Responsibilities
  • Collaboration:

    Work with internal Project Managers to determine equipment specifications needed to create successful event designs.
  • Drafting:
    Draft room diagrams with A/V elements using CAD, Visio, or Vectorworks.
  • Logistics:
    Coordinate event supplies and shipments.
  • Set Design:
    Coordinate the design, construction, and installation of sets.
  • Quality Control:
    Confirm that the equipment and technical placements will meet the client’s needs.
  • Vendor Management:
    Manage the bid and contracting process with A/V vendors.
  • Budgeting:
    Manage A/V costs as dictated by project budgets; actively seek out cost savings and efficiencies in quotes.
  • Reporting:
    Report changes and fluctuations in pricing to Project Managers throughout the life of a project.
  • Union Relations:
    Understand and work within union labor guidelines (IATSE, IBEW, Decorators, Teamsters, etc.).
  • Venue Liaison:
    Interface with venue managers regarding A/V designs and venue capabilities; conduct venue research and advance technical specifications.
  • Relationship Building:
    Develop and maintain high-level relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Documentation:
    Create technical specification sheets based on project requirements for vendors; assemble and distribute project documents to crew members.
  • Operations:
    Manage day-to-day needs for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Financials:
    Collect and review invoices from vendors.
  • Talent Coordination:
    Advance event details with performers and performer management.
  • On-Site Execution:
    Work on-site at events to oversee technical elements.
  • Support:
    Assist the Technical Director in all other tasks as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1+ years of related experience in the event production or entertainment industry, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Software Proficiency:
    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and internet research.
  • Technical Software:
    Experience with CAD programs, specifically Vectorworks and Microsoft Visio.

Physical & Schedule Requirements
  • Physical Stamina:
    Must be able to stand on their feet for more than 10 hours at a time and physically perform the duties described in this job description.
  • Schedule Flexibility:
    Must be willing and able to work nights and weekends for events. This is not a typical “9 am to 5 pm” job; hours are project-based.
  • Travel:
    Some travel will be required.
  • Transportation:
    Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
