Job Summary
The Tutor is responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of activities for assigned programs that achieve predetermined program outcomes.
QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Math, English, or Engineering. Bachelor in Education preferred;
Master’s degree a plus.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience teaching or tutoring individual members or students in a small group. Management experience is a plus. Tutor must be able to demonstrate the use of a multimedia computer system with related devices to run programs; access, generate, and manipulate data; and communicate results.
Licensing Requirements:
Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services Medical Examination Report for Caregivers and Staff must meet acceptable standards from the State of Missouri, completed within 30 days of hire.
TB Risk Assessment and Examination completed within 30 days of hire.
Annual results of Family Care Safety Registry background screening must be deemed acceptable by the State of Missouri.
Annual results of nationwide background screening must meet barrier crimes standards for organizational membership with Boys & Girls Clubs or America.
Meets qualifications and ongoing training requirements per state licensing regulations (12 hrs. annually).
Able to lift, carry, push, pull, or roll up to 20-25 pounds.
Capable of prolonged standing, walking, and speaking; occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching; and working in front of a PC monitor.
Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word and communicating detailed or important spoken instructions to others clearly and accurately for safety of children.
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; may experience noise requiring raising voice above ambient levels.
Local and some regional travel is required.
Ability to work independently with a child within a larger tutor group context.
Routine reporting and grant deadlines; variable work volume.
Identifies and resolves problems, analyzes information, and develops alternatives; participates in group problem solving; handles emotional topics professionally.
Tutor must demonstrate use of multimedia computer systems to run programs and communicate results.
May handle emergencies or crises; manages interruptions without unduly disrupting programming.
Some weekend work; stays current with best practices, resources, and materials; provides personalized assistance.
Attends meetings and events and follows up on important information.
Treat members and their parents with dignity and respect.
Foster good working relationships with parents, staff, management, and other professionals to meet objectives.
Balance team and individual responsibilities; welcome feedback and support teamwork.
Cooperate with all coworkers; independently plan and complete duties with sound judgment.

Develop and maintain high levels of customer service with members, parents, volunteers, and professional partners.

Uses materials, resources, and technologies to make subject matter accessible; guides members in assessing their own learning.
Applies theories of youth development across physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative domains to BGCSTL programming.
Aligns mission and Formula for Impact with program implementation; links activities to program goals.
Maintains safe environments and promotes well-being; builds supportive relationships with children and youth.
Participates in program planning, delivery, and evaluation; plans and acquires equipment and materials.
Demonstrates ethical conduct and understands mandated reporter responsibilities.
