Overview
Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Program Coordinator – University of Missouri–Saint Louis (UMSL).
Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor is expected with the granting of tenure based on evaluation of the applicant’s record. Appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure will be considered for exceptional applicants. The School of Engineering seeks program coordinators who are visionary and collaborative, student-focused, and research leaders.
Responsibilities- Primary responsibilities include student recruitment and retention; student success initiatives; faculty assignments and workload; faculty evaluation; participation in reappointment, promotion and tenure; curriculum development; program assessment and accreditation; development of research programs; faculty professional development; and coordination and oversight of classroom and laboratory usage.
- Each coordinator reports to the Founding Director and will participate in future hires within their academic unit.
As a tenured or tenure-track faculty member, the successful candidate will maintain a sustainable record of research and scholarship, teaching excellence, and experience in personnel development, project management, and strategic planning. Faculty will have opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations across the university, industries, and AMICSTL, the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center St. Louis.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
- Record of scholarship and ability to secure external funding from various agencies including industry partners.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to teaching excellence, experiential learning, and student success.

The School of Engineering is being established at UMSL to provide rigorous, relevant and affordable engineering education. It will house ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree programs in mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, with additional programs to be added as the school grows. The school emphasizes accessibility and flexibility and includes a Student Project Design Laboratory funded by a $15-million grant. Cohorts are planned for Fall 2025 with full opening upon renovations in Fall 2026.
