I. BASIC FUNCTION
Oversees the development, management and provision of primary oral health services and education at Family Care Health Centers.
All employees of FCHC must ensure service standards are delivered, including:

DEPARTMENT: DENTAL SERVICES
JOB TITLE: DENTIST
Primary Responsibilities- Provides comprehensive dental care including examination, diagnosis, treatment, patient counseling, referral and follow-up.
- Provides telephone consultation to clients and families as necessary.
- Maintains appropriate policies, protocols, records, reports and statistical data relevant to services provided.
- Contributes to the quality and maintenance of onsite clinical support services such as sterilization, laboratory, emergency kit, as well as arrangements for outside clinical support services such as specialty referrals.
- Consults with staff members regarding the oral health care needs of individual clients.
- Participates in Center’s system of after‑hours coverage and arranges for provision of emergency services.
- Works cooperatively with management staff to integrate preventative dental services within Center programming.
- Participates in the development of in‑service programs related to dental health issues.
- Accepts assignments and responsibilities regarding time schedules for patient care, committee work, quality improvement and other areas related to special competence.
- Provides supervision, orientation, and evaluation of Dental Staff, as well as hires, schedules assignments and leaves for such staff.
- Serves as primary site advisor on dental service needs to the Interim Chief Dental Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors.
- Regularly evaluates dental provider productivity and takes action to meet encounter expectations.
- Participates in Health Center staff problem solving groups.
- Attends and participates in department meetings, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Inside Health Center:
All inclusive; collaboration with all direct reports.
Outside Health Center:
Patients/Clients, students, vendors, community health agencies, grant agencies, funding agencies, professional colleagues, professional organizations and education institutions, managed care plans, dental offices, City, State and Federal agencies, etc.
- Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine required.
- License to practice dental medicine in the State of Missouri and in good standing required.
- Drug license and Medicaid provider enrollment number required.
- Work experience in urban community health setting preferred.
Current memberships and active participation in ADA and local dental society strongly encouraged.
Continued EducationSatisfactory maintenance of continuing education standards as established by the Missouri Dental Association is required.
