Manager of Mission Communication
The Manager of Mission Communication is a key voice in how Family Forward communicates its purpose, progress, and people. This position leads strategic storytelling, creates compelling content, and ensures that our mission resonates with supporters and the communities we serve. The role blends communication, connection, and creation, bringing our mission to life through digital and in‑person touchpoints, building trust with community members, and playing a pivotal role in donor pipeline development.
This is an opportunity for a communicator who is equally comfortable writing compelling copy and showing up in the community, building relationships, and capturing stories firsthand. The Manager supervises a part‑time graphic designer and works cross‑functionally with Development, Program, and Leadership teams to ensure messaging reflects the lived experiences and values of the families we serve.

- Partner with staff and trusted stakeholders to ensure messaging is culturally responsive and locally relevant.
- Oversee digital communications platforms including website, email, and social media, aligning content with mission objectives.
- Plan and execute content campaigns that are aligned with mission goals and designed to convert interest into action.
- Collaborate with the Development Operations Manager to create mission‑forward content that nurtures potential lapsed and lapsing donors, volunteers, and partners from first impression to long‑term engagement.
- Be available for evening and weekend activities as needed to capture content and support the mission in action.
- Supervise the part‑time graphic designer, providing project guidance, brand oversight, and feedback; provide supervision and support to any additional development team members as assigned.
- Recruit and collaborate with creatives, freelancers, and volunteers for campaign support.
- Dedicate approximately 20% of time to supporting internal teams with program‑specific content needs, internal messaging, and mission‑aligned materials.
- Monitor analytics and outcomes across platforms to understand what drives audience engagement and conversion, and adjust strategies accordingly to improve reach and relevance.
- Center accessibility, equity, and representation in all communication materials. Ensure stories and images reflect the full diversity of the communities we serve.
- Work in partnership with the Culture and Engagement Manager.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit communications, digital storytelling, or donor‑centered messaging.
- Bilingual skills preferred, including American Sign Language (ASL); proficiency in any second language is a plus.
- Have strong writing and content development skills, with a focus on storytelling that builds connection and drives action.
- Have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Have experience managing digital platforms (Word Press, Mailchimp/Constant Contact, Instagram/Facebook).
- Be comfortable capturing and editing original content (photo and video) for use in multiple formats.
- Have experience working in or alongside the communities you aim to serve (desired but not required).
- Have demonstrated ability to lead projects independently while collaborating across departments.
- Be willing and available to attend evening and weekend events as part of regular responsibilities.
- Have effective writing skills, strong oral communication skills, and presentation skills.
- Have project management and supervisory skills, with an ability to handle multiple and varying tasks.
