Overview

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is looking for a hard-charging local news reporter to cover a range of communities in our area. We want a reporter who is adept at quickly filing a breaking news story but is also able to spot the big picture, trends and deeper narratives.

The beat includes a wide coverage area, focusing on the largest suburbs and municipalities in our area. But we're not looking for routine meeting coverage. We want a reporter who can dig into city finances, hold officials accountable, track critical decisions and spot broader trends - while also connecting with the interesting people and places that make up the fabric of a community.

This is a chance to shape a new beat and chase stories that will engage large groups of readers. You ll have the freedom to follow your news instincts and craft dynamic stories, from breaking news to features to investigative stories. We want you to understand local communities and their residents, developing topical and smart stories.

We also want someone who can work across all of our digital platforms, navigate social media, embrace new technology and be willing to experiment with new story forms.

The St. Louis region is a diverse area with an eclectic mix of communities. This is a chance to put your personal stamp on a busy beat and make your mark with unique content.
