We are seeking an Asphalt Quality Control Technician to oversee project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This position involves sampling, lab and field testing, documentation, and collaboration with paving crews and production teams to ensure consistent material quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities- Perform field sampling and testing of asphalt mixes, aggregates, and other construction materials.
- Conduct lab testing such as gradation analysis, asphalt content, compaction, and volumetric analysis.
- Monitor and document temperatures, material consistency, and placement conditions on paving projects.
- Calibrate, maintain, and operate testing equipment according to established procedures.
- Record and report test results accurately and promptly to the QC Manager and project teams.
- Ensure materials and mixtures comply with DOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and project‑specific specifications.
- Communicate effectively with plant operators, paving crews, and project engineers regarding material performance and any adjustments needed.
- Assist with daily QC documentation, such as daily reports, batch records, and inspection logs.
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for mix or material issues.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) on job sites and in labs.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in construction materials, civil engineering, or related field is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in asphalt quality control or construction materials testing preferred.
- Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., DOT Certification, ACI, NICET, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of asphalt mix designs and construction material specifications.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, ASTM, and state DOT testing procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and record‑keeping accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mix designs.
- Basic computer and data entry skills (e.g., Excel, QC software).
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods on construction sites.
- Travel between job sites and the lab as needed.
