Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in Berkeley, Missouri. This is a contract position that offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a non-profit organization while utilizing your accounting expertise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting practices and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and post journal entries to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping.

- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all accounts are properly balanced.

- Reconcile accounts to ensure financial data accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.

- Perform balance sheet reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial statements.

- Conduct bank account reconciliations to ensure alignment between financial records and bank statements.

- Review and analyze financial transactions for compliance with organizational policies.

- Assist in preparing reports and summaries for management review.

- Collaborate with team members to support month-end and year-end closing processes.

- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and recommend solutions.

- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. Requirements - Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.

- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accounts.

- Demonstrated knowledge of account reconciliation processes.

- Strong expertise in performing balance sheet and bank account reconciliations.

- Familiarity with standard accounting practices and financial regulations.

- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a contract-based role.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with team members.
