Field Mechanic

Overview

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Field Mechanic to travel Nationwide.

This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position. Supports all labor activity involved in inspecting, rebuilding, and repairing maintenance of way equipment. Day to day tasks vary and are regularly dispatched to field locations. Welding, electrical, and hydraulic work on railroad equipment. Perform railcar inspections and repairs to FRA & AAR guidelines and customer requirements. Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as required.

Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment for the job in a safe manner. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position. Regular engagement with Herzog’s culture and its essential behaviors is a requirement for this position. • Our mechanics go the extra mile to meet our uptime needs. Extensive travel time is required in this position. Up to 95% of work time may be spent away from home on an annual basis. While our mechanics are compensated accordingly, this commitment to travel time should be seriously considered prior to applying for this position.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Experience with electrical, diesel mechanics, welding, and hydraulics is a must.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Class B CDL a plus.
• Must be able to travel to customer location.
• Relocation not required.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hardhat provided).
• Must have basic hand tools.
• Must be able to cover travel expenses (if required) until 1st paycheck is processed (approximately 7-10 after start date).
• Industry experience is a plus.
• Provide all hand tools.

• Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
• Subject to motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
• This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
