Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Inpatient Rehab Unit (ARU) position at a Level II Trauma and Stroke Center in St. Joseph, MO, requiring BSN and a MO or compact RN license.

Responsibilities
  • Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) within a 352-bed Level II Trauma and Stroke Center
  • Patients discharged from acute care who require 1+ week of physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy, including post-surgical, post-stroke, CHF, elective total joints, hip/femur fractures, back/neck surgery, stroke/TIA, and general med-surg diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, and wounds
  • Non-telemetry unit; patients may occasionally have IVs and require lab draws
  • Patient ratio is 1:5 on days and 1:5–6 on nights
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30, on a Monday–Sunday schedule cycle
  • Every 3rd weekend required
  • Holiday block coverage required during the contract period; weekend and holiday time-off requests must be pre-approved prior to onboarding
  • Floating to like units within the hospital is required and may occur at any time
  • Charting via Epic
  • Free parking on-site
  • Works collaboratively with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and care management teams to plan for patient discharge from the time of admission
  • Self-scheduling is available, but schedules are built 6 weeks in advance; travelers joining mid-cycle may have limited self-scheduling flexibility for the first 6–12 weeks
  • Must complete all organizational mandatory education prior to or upon starting
  • No smoking or leaving the premises during a shift
  • The unit is currently expanding by 18 beds, creating multiple staffing needs and strong potential for contract extensions
  • Conversion to a permanent position is possible for the right candidate
  • Local candidates are accepted at a reduced pay rate; candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel pay rates
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 2 years of RN experience
Requirements
  • Active MO RN license or compact RN license required; pending license is acceptable but must be in hand prior to start
  • Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS
  • BSN required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; first-time travelers are welcome with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Must pass a Basic EKG exam with a score of 80% or higher (2 attempts allowed) prior to starting
  • Proficiency with IV insertion and lab draws required
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
