Terms of Employment: 9 months
Eligible for emergency telework: with supervisor approval
Purpose: Manages the health care needs of students in need of round‑the‑clock, daily care; assists assigned students with educational needs. Serves as a back‑up for the Nurse, responding to emergencies and assisting in the Nurse’s Office as needed. May provide 1:1 nursing care for students with specialized health needs.
Essential Job Functions
- Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
- To “telework” when requested by the District.
- Monitors and manages students with chronic disease and disabilities, and documents the treatment and service provided in accordance with orders and plan of care.
- Provides emergency or crisis nursing care for physically and/or psychologically ill and injured students.
- Maintains accurate records of student health information and confidentiality.
- Identifies and monitors health issues and reports to the RN or administrative staff as needed.
- Provides educational support to students within a classroom.
- Respond to emergency situations within the building.
- Communicate and collaborate with the building RN, staff and Principal.
- Adhere to infection control procedures and protocols.
- Follow physician orders and instruction from the RN.
- Ability to perform all nursing functions based on the individual needs of the assigned student, as well as general medical skills utilized in emergency situations.
- Familiarity with the use of medical equipment.
- The ability to read small print.
- Basic technical skills, including competency in computer applications.
- Excellent communications skills with children and staff.
- Moderate noise level; general classroom settings.
- Responsible for assisting in toileting and hygiene of children with disabilities.
- Talk and listen to students, colleagues, and other individuals on a regular basis.
- Sit, stand, and walk to various location throughout the school while staying with assigned students.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Attend all professional development and staff meetings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Adhere to district rules, policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
