Powder Coat Technician

Van-Am Tool & Engineering is a custom manufacturer located in St. Joseph, MO. We are currently interviewing strong candidates for a variety of positions to join our outstanding team!

Day Shift: 5:00AM - 3:30PM, T-Th - 4 Days

Night Shift: 3:30PM - 2:00AM, M-Th - 4 Days ($2.00/hr differential)

Base Rate of Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Van‑Am Tool & Engineering is seeking EXPERIENCED Powder Coat Technicians to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the preparation and application of powder coatings to metal and other surfaces, ensuring a high-quality finish that meets our standards. As an integral part of our manufacturing process, you will contribute to the production of durable and visually appealing products.

Collaboration with production and quality teams is essential to maintain performance and precision while meeting deadlines.

Your primary duties will include surface preparation through cleaning, masking, and pre‑treatment processes, followed by the operation of powder coating equipment to apply uniform coatings. You will inspect coated surfaces to ensure proper quality, thickness, and consistency, and troubleshoot equipment as needed. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and adhering to safety protocols is critical to this position.

We are looking for candidates with a high school diploma or GED, and a minimum of 1‑2 years of experience in powder coating or industrial painting. Technical certifications and experience in a manufacturing environment are preferred. Strong attention to detail, familiarity with coating equipment, and the ability to interpret work orders are essential skills. Certifications in powder coating or related fields are a plus.

Physical demands include the ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and color vision for coating inspection. This position is based in a manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coating materials, moving machinery, and noise. Proper safety gear is required at all times.
