Custodian (Part-Time) EVENINGS & WEEKENDS

City of St. Joseph – Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities – REC Center.

Provides janitorial services and minor building maintenance for the REC Center.

$15.00/hr – $15.00/hr

Salary: $22,885.20 per year ($14.67/hr)

• Cleans and maintains floors including sweeping, mopping and buffing.
• Cleans restrooms and stocks necessary supplies.
• Clears trash inside and outside of the building.
• Cleans and dusts various rooms and windows.
• Performs general maintenance activities such as changing light bulbs, painting, and making minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs.
• Daily set up and tear down of gyms for various sports/activities.

• Shovels snow from walkways and applies ice-melting compound(s) as necessary.
• Sets up and breaks down for special events.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

• Skills in minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repair.
• Knowledge of general custodial practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of various supplies used in building maintenance.
• Ability to work with various hand tools.
• Ability to work effectively with other employees.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Uses a variety of equipment such as brooms, mops, cleaning supplies and a variety of other hand tools. Personal vehicle may be required at times.

Work is mainly performed indoors but some tasks outdoors. Exposures: dirt, dust, cleaning chemicals, noise. Must be able to work with hand tools, be physically fit, hold a valid driver’s license. Some previous custodial experience preferred. Overnight or day travel may be required.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment. Any job offer is contingent upon passing the check.
