Position: Chemist I

In this role, you’ll perform essential clinical testing under our CLIA-certified laboratory license, ensuring accurate and reliable results that help protect public health.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts sample analyses to support clinical diagnoses in accordance with CLIA regulations.
  • Prepares reagents and materials required for daily testing procedures.
  • Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments to ensure accurate, reliable, and legally defensible results for external clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains thorough documentation and quality control standards to meet laboratory certification requirements.
  • Performs calculations and applies statistical methods to raw data for accurate reporting.
  • Develops and maintains control charts, graphs, and other quality assurance tools to comply with laboratory and regulatory standards.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.
Equipment Utilized

Includes Hologic Panther Fusion, pipettors, microscopes, centrifuges, hotplates, vortex mixers, water baths, incubators, balances, and vacuum pumps.

Working Conditions

Requires prolonged standing or sitting, repetitive hand and wrist movements, and exposure to biohazards, chemicals, and general laboratory hazards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related field and two years related laboratory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to meet the minimum qualifications CLIA High Complexity testing personnel, Section 493.1489 https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

Selection and Appointment

A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job‑related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
